Requirements for Au Pairs

To qualify as an au pair in Japan, you need to meet the following requirements:
  • Aged between 18 and 30 years old.

  • Unmarried and without children.

  • Citizen of Argentina, Australia, Austria, Canada, Chile, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, France, Finland, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, the Republic of Korea, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, or Uruguay.

  • Planning to live with a host family in Japan for a maximum of one year.

  • Different nationality from your host family and not related.

  • Sufficient funds (2000 Euro) to support yourself during the first days in Japan and able to afford the flight to and from Japan.

  • Valid insurance covering illness and accident during your stay.

Requirements for Host Families

Host families in Japan must meet the following criteria:
  • At least one child under 18 lives with the family.

  • Provide a separate room for the au pair.

  • Au pair stays for a maximum of one year and helps with childcare and light housework.

  • Different nationality from the au pair and not related.
