To become an au pair or host family in Italy, the following criteria must be met.

Requirements for Au Pairs

To qualify as an au pair in Italy, you need to meet the following requirements:
  • Aged between 18 and 30 years old (EU citizens can become an au pair at the age of 17).

  • Have a nationality other than Italian.

  • Unmarried and without children.

  • Able to afford the trip to Italy.

  • Interested in going to Italy to live with a host family, take care of their children, and get to know Italian culture and language.

Requirements for Host Families

Host families in Italy must meet the following criteria:
  • At least one child under the age of 18 living in the household.

  • Provide an individual room for the au pair.

  • Looking to have an au pair join the family on a temporary basis to help with childcare and light household tasks.

  • Speak Italian in daily family life.

  • Ready to make time available for the au pair to attend a language course.

  • Have a different nationality than the au pair.
