To become an au pair or host family in France, the following criteria must be met.

Requirements for Au Pairs

To qualify as an au pair in France, you need to meet the following requirements:
  • Aged between 18 and 30 years old (from 17 years old for EU citizens).

  • Unmarried and without children.

  • Have a nationality other than French.

  • At least a basic knowledge of French.

  • Studying in your home country or have a school leaving certificate that entitles you to study (no restriction for EU and EFTA citizens).

  • Willing to stay in France for at least 3 months.

  • Able to afford the trip to France.

  • Willing to attend a language course during your stay in France (compulsory for EU citizens).

Requirements for Host Families

Host families in France must meet the following criteria:
  • One or more children aged at least 3 but under 18 living in the household.

  • Provide a private room for the au pair.

  • Au pair's tasks should include caring for children and light housework.

  • Speak French in daily life.

  • Host the au pair for at least 3 months.

  • Give the au pair enough time to attend a language course.
