To become an au pair or host family in Australia, certain criteria must be met.

Requirements for Au Pairs

To qualify as an au pair in Australia, you need to meet the following requirements:
  • Aged between 18 and 30 years old.

  • From Argentina, Austria, Bangladesh, Czech Republic, Chile, China, Ecuador, Greece, Hungary, Indonesia, Israel, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Peru, Poland, Portugal, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, Uruguay, the USA or Vietnam.

  • Unmarried and without children.

  • Functional knowledge of English.

  • At least 5,000 AUD in your bank account to cover travel costs.

  • Have not previously held a Work and Holiday Visa (462) for Australia.

  • Government approval for your stay (not required for US citizens).

Requirements for Host Families

Host families in Australia must meet the following criteria:
  • At least one child under the age of 18 living in the household.

  • Provide a private room for the au pair.

  • Au pair assists with childcare and light housework.

  • English is the family language

  • Different nationality from the au pair.
